Six European attempts of the national team of Ukraine
During its 25-year history, Ukraine's national team has participated in the European Championships six times. The first four attempts to reach the final tournament through selection cycles were unsuccessful.
In the selection for Euro-1996, our team took third place in their group. Four years later, the Blue and Yellows finished second in the Euro 2000 selection, but were unable to overcome the playoff round, losing to the Slovenians for two matches.
In the fight for tickets to Euro-2004, the national team of Ukraine again failed, taking only third place in its selection group. Ukraine did not get to Euro 2008 either, taking only the fourth position in the group.
The first appearance of our national team in the final stage of competitions of the best teams of the Old World was home for us with Poland Euro-2012. However, a victory over Sweden (2: 1) and two defeats by France (0: 2) and England (0: 1) did not allow Ukraine to make it to the 1/8 finals.
In the qualification for Euro 2016, our team took third place in their group and won a ticket to the final tournament only in the playoff round, defeating Slovenia. But the campaign on the fields of France was unsuccessful. Mykhailo Fomenko's wards lost all three matches (Germany - 0: 2, Northern Ireland - 0: 2 and Poland - 0: 1).
