Andriy Shevchenko: "We have created enough opportunities to succeed"
Head coach of the national team of Ukraine Andriy Shevchenko held a post-match press conference after victory over the Czech national team in the League of Nations.
- In your opinion, what is the difference between the players of the two national teams and why did Ukraine manage to create so many more goal moments?
- I want to compliment the Czech team, it has good performers, it varied the scheme of the game. I think this team has a great future. It's always hard for a national team coach to work, especially when you get players the day after their club matches, it's hard to work out any schemes. I see that the Czech national team understands the schemes of its head coach. After the first half, the hosts moved, which immediately complicated our actions.
However, the Ukrainian national team looked very good today. We maneuvered, our players were properly positioned, we knew our strong qualities. We have a lot of good midfielders who are good at maneuvering, skillfully playing the short and medium pass while easily crossing the space between the lines. Due to this we have created a lot of moments.
- Do you think the result is natural, or is Ukraine more fortunate?
- We have created enough opportunities to win. The Czech national team did not stop either, football was open for the last 15 minutes. This is what attracts the tournament - the teams understand that the group is small, there are very few games, every victory is very important. We were closer to victory and deserved it.
- It seemed that during Yarmolenko's replacement some incomprehensible situation arose…
- Regarding this replacement, we must take into account that we have two important matches in a short time. Our top players did well today, but I saw some fatigue. We have a qualified replacement. They slightly changed the structure of the game, replaced not only Yarmolenko, but also Konoplyanka. But I am very pleased with their game, interaction.

- It is not necessary to dramatize this situation. Law enforcement officers have responsibilities. No one is to blame for what happened.
- All three substitutions strengthened the game. Was it designed that way?
- Yes, all the substitutes entered the game well. We saw that we were starting to lose to the Czechs on the right flank, so we replaced Yarmolenko, he gave a lot of strength. Marlos was removed a little, and Zinchenko was released in his place.
Tsygankov is in great shape, competing with all attackers. He, as well as Seleznyov, entered the game very well today. Substitutes played a key role in the winning ball.
