Marian Swede Becomes Fourth Ukrainian to Play Scottish Club
Before Marianne Swede, which the other day signed the agreement with Celtic, three Ukrainian football players played for Scottish clubs - Serhiy Baltacha, Oleh Kuznetsov and Oleksiy Mykhailychenko.
The pioneer in Scottish football among our compatriots was the famous defender of Dynamo Kyiv Serhiy Baltacha. In all, Sergei Pavlovich spent five seasons in Scotland (1990-1995), defending the colors of St. Johnstone and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Oleg Kuznetsov, Baltachi's colleague and partner at Dynamo Kyiv, moved to Scotland next. Oleg Vladimirovich spent four seasons with the Rangers (1990-1994). During this time, the Ukrainian became the national champion four times, won the Scottish League Cup three times and the Scottish Cup once.
Following Kuznetsov, another famous Kyiv Dynamo player, midfielder Oleksiy Mykhailychenko (1991-1996), moved to Rangers from Italian Sampdoria. Together with the team from Glasgow, Oleksiy Oleksandrovych won the national championship five times and the Scottish Cup three times.
