The 43rd regular UEFA Congress has ended in Rome

The 43rd Congress of the Union of European Football Associations was held in the Italian capital, under which UEFA President Alexander Cheferin was re-elected and new members of the Executive Committee were elected.

Today at 43rd regular UEFA Congress in Rome Alexander Cheferin was unanimous re-elected to the position of the president of the organization for the period from 2019 to 2023. FFU President Andriy Pavelko elect to the renewed composition of the UEFA Executive Committee for four years.

Recall that the Football Federation of Ukraine was among the first national associations to support the candidacy of Alexander Cheferin for the post of president of the Union of European Football Associations.

In his post-election speech, Cheferin said: "In the next term, we will work together to ensure that European football remains united, that European football is based on respect, esteem and respect, that European football continues to show solidarity and hope." .

"Respect, hope and solidarity remain central elements of our strategy, and we will increase our efforts to develop football in each country, paying even more attention to grassroots and youth football, as well as education," said the UEFA President.

A new UEFA strategy "Together for the Future of Football" was presented at the congress. It covers the years 2019-2024 and was developed in consultation with national associations, leagues, clubs and organizations representing the interests of footballers.

The strategy remains true to UEFA's core values ​​as the governing body of European football. For the next five years, UEFA will continue to implement progressive initiatives and programs. UEFA's new strategy has four pillars: football, trust, wrestling and prosperity.

Cheferin also told attendees that within the next six months, the European Football Union would launch its own OTT technology platform.

As for the elections to the UEFA Executive Committee, Frenchwoman Florence Arduen has been re-elected for a four-year term. Also, the following four years were elected members of the executive committee:

  • Sándor Czani (Hungary) - 49 votes;
  • Luis Rubiales (Spain) - 47 (new member);
  • Davor Šuker (Croatia) - 47;
  • Fernando Gomes (Portugal) - 45;
  • Esper Meller-Christensen (Denmark) - 40 (new member);
  • Armand Duka (Albania) - 36 (new member);
  • Andriy Pavelko (Ukraine) - 27 (new member).

Didn't get enough votes

  • Borislav Mikhailov (Bulgaria) - 25;
  • Elvedin Begic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) - 15.

Kairat Boranbaev (Kazakhstan) withdrew his candidacy before the election.

It will be recalled that the candidacy of FFU President Andriy Pavelko for the UEFA Executive Committee was supported by the world boxing champion, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, NOC of Ukraine President Serhiy Bubka, head coach of the national team of Ukraine Andriy Shevchenko, Golden Ball winner Oleh Blokhin and winner of the "Golden Ball" -1975 Igor Belanov. The last four were present at the congress as guests of honor.

Sandor Canyi (Hungary) replaces Grigory Surkis (Ukraine) as UEFA Vice President.

The election of the FIFA Vice-President from the British Associations (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales) with a mandate for 2019-2023 ended with the following results:

  • Greg Clark (England) - 37;

  • David Martin (Northern Ireland) - 18.

One ordinary member of the FIFA Council with a mandate for 2019-2023 was elected by acclamation:

  • Reinhard Grindel (Germany).

Two ordinary members of the FIFA Council with a mandate for 2019-2021 were elected by acclamation:

  • Fernando Gomes (Portugal).
  • George Koumas (Cyprus).

The UEFA Congress also adopted the following decisions:

  • Nasser Al-Helaifi has been approved as a representative of the Association of European Clubs (AEC) on the UEFA Executive Committee;
  • Gregory Surkis, who retained his position on the UEFA Executive Committee, was given the title of honorary UEFA member;
  • approved the UEFA Annual Report on the results of the 2017-2018 season, the financial results of the 2017-2018 season and the budget for the 2019/2020 season;
  • Petra Stanonik-Bosniak, Thomas Kayol, Polly Handford and Antonio Garcia Alcaras have been confirmed as new members of the UEFA judiciary.

The next regular UEFA Congress will be held on March 3, 2020 in Amsterdam.
