National International University of Defense hosted X International Officers' Starts

On February 7-8, the Ivan Chernyakhovsky National University of Defense of Ukraine hosted competitions within the framework of the X International Officers' Starts Sports Games. This year it included six types of competitions: futsal, swimming, shot put with PM, table tennis, chess and the newly introduced type - badminton.

Teams from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Navy, the Land Forces, the Air Force, the Special Operations Forces, the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine and the hosts of the tournament - the Ivan Chernyakhovsky National University of Defense of Ukraine took part in the Games.

In addition to Ukrainian servicemen, representatives from different countries of the world joined the tournament, namely: national teams of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the United States of America, and the Republic of Poland. For the first time this year, the Canadian Armed Forces presented their team at the Games.

The team of the National University of Defense of Ukraine won gold medals in a fierce but friendly confrontation. Second place went to the Air Force team, and the SBU team won bronze medals.

- This wonderful sports holiday, which went beyond the university, has become traditional and international. This is, without a doubt, a good and friendly example of support for our school, our armed forces and our state in a very difficult period of confronting military aggression in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. I firmly believe that holding the International Games will bring moral and emotional satisfaction to each of you, - said during the opening ceremony of the Games, the head of the NGO. Honorable guests, including the Honored Master of Sports in Football, player of the national team of Ukraine, four-time Ukrainian football champion, UEFA Cup winner Volodymyr Yezersky, greeted the military athletes; Vice-President of the Futsal Association of Ukraine Viktor Taran; the president of the Badminton Federation of the city of Kiev, Elizabeth Saria; Rector of the SBU National Academy Colonel Sergei Kudinov and Advisor to the President of the Football Federation of Ukraine Valentin Latipov. The FFU representative congratulated Andriy Pavelko and the national team on the military and wished them victory in sports and on the battlefield.

Colonel Algirdas Norcus, the Defense Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, expressed his support to the participants of the X International Sports Contest from the military attaches of foreign countries accredited in Ukraine. In addition, Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Nette (Assistant to the Military Attaché of the Canadian Embassy in Ukraine) and Major Mariusz Sadowski (Assistant to the Military Attaché of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine) personally participated in sporting competitions as captains of teams of their countries.

- According to the instructions of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine on the basis of the National University of Defense of Ukraine it is planned to build a sports and recreation complex. Thanks to this, in the future we will be able to expand the scope of the Games, add new sports and invite other countries. We are supported, and this is very important, - said the head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Finogenov.

Participants of the Olympics expressed their support for Ukrainian sailors who were illegally captured by the Russian military on November 25, 2018, and Lt. Col. Andriy Yatsun, senior lecturer at the Department of Physical Education of Kharkiv National University of the Air Force named after Ivan Kozhedub, who repeatedly participated in the competition. , and who is currently diagnosed with lung cancer.
