Officially. About the opening of UEFA disciplinary proceedings regarding the matches of the national team of Ukraine in the Euro-2020 qualification with the teams of Portugal and Luxembourg

Secretary General of the Federation of Football of Ukraine Yuri Zapisotsky commented on the situation with the opening of disciplinary proceedings concerning the first two matches of the national team of Ukraine in the selection for Euro-2020.

"The football federations of Portugal and Luxembourg have submitted protests to UEFA in accordance with the procedure set out in the UEFA Disciplinary Code regarding the possible illegal participation in the Euro 2020 qualifying matches of the player of the national team of Ukraine Junior Moraes.

In accordance with the procedure laid down, the UEFA Committee on Disciplinary and Ethical Affairs opened two disciplinary proceedings and gave FFU time to clarify its legal position on the matter.

Decisions based on the results of the protests will be made at the next meeting of the committee, the time of which will be determined later.

I would like to emphasize that during the consideration of the issue of inviting Junior Moraes to the national team of Ukraine to prepare for and participate in matches with Portugal and Luxembourg, we analyzed the situation with the football player obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. Consultations were also held with experts from UEFA and FIFA, who confirmed the legitimacy of inviting Moraes to join the national team of Ukraine.

Therefore, we ask the fans to remain calm until the final decision of UEFA. I am confident that the UEFA Committee on Disciplinary and Ethical Issues, having read the FFU's arguments on this issue, will leave unchanged the results of the first two matches of the Ukrainian national team in qualifying for Euro 2020, "said FFU Secretary General Yuriy Zapisotsky.
