Yevhen Varenytsa: “I cannot say that everything happened in Baku according to our previous plan”

The head coach of the beach national team Yevhen Varenytsa summed up the results of the training camp in Azerbaijan.

The Ukrainian beach soccer team has completed a week-long training camp in the Azerbaijani capital. While working in Baku, the Ukrainians played two control matches with the local team. In the first of them, the blue and yellows won with a score 4: 3, in the second - played a draw - 3:3.

The third match was planned, but it was canceled by mutual consent due to the result of the draw for the World Beach Games in San Diego (USA). In the Spanish town of Salou in the 1/8 finals of the qualifying tournament, Ukraine will play against Azerbaijan. 

Yevgeny Varenytsya, mentor of the Ukrainian team, spoke about the results of the gathering in the Azerbaijani capital:

"Unfortunately, I can't say that everything went according to our previous plan. First, the weather was a bit disappointing. It was quite cool in Baku, and it was raining. I had to spend a couple of classes under the roof, in the gym. This is not the worst option, but we went to Azerbaijan under favorable conditions to work with the ball. But what you do, the weather is the weather.

Secondly, the draw for the World Beach Games interfered in our plans. Even before leaving for Baku, I said that a possible version of our meeting with the Azerbaijanis is already in the first stage of qualification. And that's exactly what happened. We had to change our plans to build a training process. We decided to play two of the three planned control matches, but without working out the standards that are extremely important in beach soccer. That is, we did not play corners and outs, so as not to open the cards to the opponent.

Instead, we gave the opportunity to show themselves to all the performers who took part in the gathering. In addition, the guys played against the background of quite large loads, because we realized that the result does not matter to us. However, we played quite well - 4: 3, 3: 3, and objectively beat the opponent in the course of these meetings. However, a friendly match is a friendly match, we will not draw any strategic conclusions from this. "

It will be recalled that the match of the 1/8 finals of the World Beach Games between Ukraine and Azerbaijan will take place on May 9 in Salou, Spain. The winner of the duel in the quarterfinals will play with the winner of the pair Russia - Norway. Only the semifinalists of the qualifying tournament will be eligible to participate in the finals of the San Diego Games.
