Yevgeny Varenytsya: “We were not very lucky with the lot at the first stage of the World Beach Games selection”

The head coach of the Ukrainian national beach soccer team Yevhen Varenytsia shared his impressions of the draw for the 1/8 finals of the World Beach Games in the USA.

On May 9, the Ukrainian beach soccer team will start a qualifying tournament as part of the European qualification for the World Beach Games in San Diego, USA. By the will of the draw, our team will play against the national team of Azerbaijan. The match of the 1/8 finals of the selection will take place in the Spanish town of Salou. 

The coach of the blue-and-yellows Yevhen Varenytsia shared his thoughts on the future confrontation: “I can say that we were not very lucky with the draw. For example, the Ukrainian national team could come across the Czech Republic or England, which are much weaker. But Germany and Azerbaijan were the strongest in the net, and one of these teams became our opponent. 

By the way, in last year's Euroleague Super Final in Italy we met with Azerbaijanis. Then it was a duel for seventh or eighth place in the tournament, but it determined the fate of the pass to the гри European Games in Minsk. And we won with a score of 5: 1.

As for the national team of Azerbaijan, I can say that there are no world stars in it. But this is a very well-prepared tactically team with players of about the same level. Azerbaijanis have great goalkeepers who play equally well with their hands and feet, which is very important in this type of football. This is a disciplined team that prefers to play on counterattacks. However, it also has enough weaknesses, but I will not talk about it now. " 

We will add that in case of successful performance of our team in 1/8 finals of selection for the World Beach Games in the quarterfinals the winner of pair Russia - Norway will wait for it. Only the semifinalists of the qualifying tournament will reach the final part of the competition in San Diego.

It will be recalled that a few days ago the national team of Ukraine held two sparring matches with the team of Azerbaijan in Baku - 4:3, 3:3.
