Officially. UEFA confirms the validity of Moraes' performances for the Ukrainian national team in the Euro 2020 qualification matches
Today, May 3, UEFA Committee on Disciplinary and Ethical Affairs declared his verdict in cases opened on the basis of protests received from the football federations of Portugal and Luxembourg regarding the performance of the national team of Ukraine on March 22 and 25 in matches against the national teams of the footballer Junior Moraes.
According to members of the committee, the invitation of Junior Moraes, who shortly before the duels against Portugal and Luxembourg received Ukrainian citizenship, to the national team of Ukraine and his participation in these matches do not contradict current UEFA and FIFA norms. Therefore, protests by the Portuguese and Luxembourg football federations were rejected. Thus, the results of both meetings remain valid, and the Ukrainian national team with four points in the asset following the results of two rounds retains first place in Group B qualifying for Euro-2020.
According to the President of the Football Federation of Ukraine Andriy Pavelko, such a verdict is quite natural and absolutely predictable.
- We have not doubted for a moment that the UEFA control and disciplinary body will make a balanced and objective decision and confirm the legitimacy of Moraes' participation in the matches of the national team of Ukraine with the national teams of Portugal and Luxembourg. After all, before the invitation to the national team, which Moraes received from the coaching staff, FFU lawyers carefully checked the procedure for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship, as well as the compliance of Moraes' application to participate in these matches to all UEFA and FIFA requirements. I am glad that this misunderstanding is over, and the national team of Ukraine confirmed the positive result obtained in two difficult qualifying matches for Euro 2020. However, it is unfortunate that those who have been conducting a dirty information campaign against the Football Federation of Ukraine for more than a year have tried to inflate this topic into a large-scale scandal, which could turn into a big disaster for all Ukrainian football, - said Andriy Pavelko.
