Serbia: We represent the opponent of the national team of Ukraine in the Euro-2020 qualifying tournament

On June 7, the national team of Ukraine will continue its performances in the qualifying tournament for the 2020 European Championship. We present our today's rival - the national team of Serbia.

General Information

As of April 2019, the Serbs ranked 29th in the official FIFA rankings. The team is the legal successor of the national teams of Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro. As the Serbian national team, it played its first match in history in 2006. The team has the nickname "White Eagles".  

The greatest achievements of the Serbs fell on the Yugoslav period of their history. The Yugoslav national team twice became the vice-champion of Europe (1960, 1968). She also won the title of 1960 Olympic champion and three silver medals at the Olympic Games (1948, 1952, 1956). In fact, the Serbian national team twice qualified for the finals of the World Cup (2010, 2018), and never overcame the group barrier.

Among the clubs, Frankfurt Eintracht has the largest representation in the White Eagles - three players, among the national championships - the championships of Germany and Italy, which delegated four performers to the team. The average age of the Serbian national team is 26,1 years. The oldest player is defender Antonio Rukavina from Astana, who turned 35, and the youngest is 21-year-old forward Luka Jovic from Eintracht.

Head Coach

45-year-old Serbian specialist Mladen Krstajic has been coaching the national team since October 2017. He replaced Slavolyub Muslin. Prior to that, Krstajic was a member of the coaching staff of his predecessor. Under the guidance of this coach, the Serbian national team played 17 matches. In them, the "representation" won seven victories, drew five times and lost five times.   

Together with Krstaich, the White Eagles performed in the finals of the 2018 World Cup, where they took third place in Group E, conceding to the 1/8 finals of the teams of Brazil and Switzerland.

Leader

Today's Serbian national team includes a number of class performers of European and world level. Among them are forwards Alexander Mitrovich from English "Fulham" and Luka Jovych, who recently signed a contract with Real Madrid. Defender Alexander Kolarov from Italian "Roma" is one of the most experienced players of this team.

However, as the current leader of the White Eagles, we still note the 30-year-old striker of Amsterdam "Ajax" Dusan Tadic. He had a brilliant season. In 34 matches in all tournaments for his team, the forward scored 28 goals and made a "golden double", becoming the champion and winner of the Dutch Cup. Tadic and de Jong became the top scorers of the Dutch championship this season. They scored 26 goals. 

For the Serbian national team, Dusan Tadic spent 62 matches, upsetting the opponents goalkeeper with his accurate shots 15 times.
