Myron Markevych: “It is important for as many fans as possible to support football legends at Lviv Arena”
On July 14, 1894, the first official demonstration football match in the history of Ukraine took place on the territory of the present Stryj Park in Lviv, in which the teams of the Sokil sports association from Lviv and Krakow competed.
On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of Ukrainian and Lviv football a press conference was held in the capital of Galicia.
- It is gratifying that during the preparation of events dedicated to this date, there was full support from the authorities of the region and Lviv, - said the head of the Football Federation of Lviv region Alexander Shevchenko. - Of course, it will be at the epicenter of events match of the national team of Ukraine among veterans and their peers from "Carpathians". The hardest part was making sure that as many football stars as possible came to Lviv on July 14. And, with the exception of Oleg Blokhin, there will probably be everyone who created and creates the history of Ukrainian football.
- Over the past three years, the national team among veterans has played more than 100 matches not only in different parts of Ukraine, in particular, on the front line in Donbass, but also abroad, - said the chairman of the UAF National Team Myron Markevich. - I invite everyone to the Arena Lviv on Sunday. We will make every effort to demonstrate meaningful football. You know, it's very interesting for me to watch footballers who used to play under my leadership or against my wards. In particular, I did not think that Yuri Maksimov was so witty… On July 14, as always, I will only play for victory. I don't know what will come out of this, because it is possible that I will play for both teams.
By the way, in order to preserve the football history of the people who created it and still do it, the Lviv Region FF has published a special book and photo album.
