UAF initiates tournament of memory of the dead in captivity of terrorists of a young footballer of FC "Avangard"

Starting in September 2019, Kramatorsk will host a tournament in memory of 16-year-old football player of FC Avangard Stepan Chubenko, who tragically died in the captivity of pro-Russian terrorists on July 25, 2014. The project is an initiative of the President of the Ukrainian Football Association, UEFA Executive Committee member Andriy Pavelko and UAF Vice President, Honorary President of Avangard Maksym Yefimov.

According to the first vice-president of UAF Vadym Kostyuchenko, football teams of Kramatorsk schools will take part in the competitions, which will be annual. "Today marks the fifth anniversary of the death of the devoted son of Ukraine and a true patriot Stepan Chubenko, who was executed by pro-Russian militants of the so-called" DPR "for a pro-Ukrainian position. Stepan Chubenko studied at the Kramatorsk secondary school № 12, he was fond of football. He was the goalkeeper of the youth team of Avangard from Kramatorsk and dreamed of becoming a professional football player. He cheered for Shakhtar Donetsk. With friends, he organized a KVN team and took care of an orphanage in his hometown. He was interested in history. At the beginning of the war in Donbass, he and his friends took part in rallies in support of Ukraine's integrity, carrying water and food to the Ukrainian military who came to defend the city.
