Children's football tournament in memory of Stepan Chubenko started in Kramatorsk

Today, August 23, a children's tournament in memory of Stepan Chubenko, the goalkeeper of the local Avangard, who died five years ago at the hands of the so-called DNR militants, started in Kramatorsk. The project is an initiative of Andriy Pavelko, President of the Ukrainian Football Association, and Maksym Yefimov, Vice President of UAF and Honorary President of Avangard. 

Composition of participants

Group A: Avangard-07 (Kramatorsk), Avangard (Siversk), Legion (Bakhmut), Shakhtar (Gorske, Luhansk Region), DUFK (Soledar). 

Group B: Avangard-08 (Kramatorsk), Fortuna (Kostiantynivka), Shakhtar (Toretsk), CYSS (Pokrovsk).

After the group matches, the teams will win prizes: on Saturday, August 24, at 14.15 pm, the semifinals will start, and at 15.30 pm - the final. The awarding of the winners will take place during the break of the match of the championship of Ukraine among the teams of the first league "Avangard" (Kramatorsk) - "Obolon-Brovar" (Kyiv). It should also be noted that all participants of the tournament will receive balls from the Ukrainian Football Association.

Stepan Chubenko studied at Kramatorsk Secondary School № 12 and was fond of football. He was the goalkeeper of the youth team of Avangard from Kramatorsk and dreamed of becoming a professional football player. He was a fan of Shakhtar Donetsk. With friends, he organized the KVN team and took care of an orphanage in his hometown. I was interested in history. At the beginning of the war in Donbass, he and his friends took part in rallies in support of Ukraine's integrity, carrying water and food to the Ukrainian military who came to defend the city. Risking his life, Stepan removed the flag of the so-called "DPR" in the city square. He was posthumously awarded the Order of the People's Hero of Ukraine.
