In the second round in Milan, the teams met, which had nowhere to retreat. At the start of the group tournament Bergamas lost away to Zagreb's Dynamo (0:4), and the Pitmen suffered a home defeat by "Manchester City" (0:3).

The game took place at Milan's San Siro due to the fact that the home stadium of Atalanta did not receive a certificate for holding European Cup matches in connection with the reconstruction. Given the tournament position of the opponents, it is not surprising that they started the game without intelligence. The game in the first half turned out to be quite intense, both teams attacked sharply. Shakhtar managed both a positional offensive and quick counterattacks. But still the owners acted more effectively at first. Ilyich fell in Shakhtar's penalty area after contact with Kryvtsov, and the referee appointed an 11-meter penalty after a pause to communicate with the assistant using the VAR system. Ilyichich's shot was pulled by Pyatov, but after a while Andriy failed to play on the way out, and Zapata opened the scoring. In the interval between these moments, Pashalych also hit the post.

The missed goal prompted the Pitmen to take more active action in the attack, and gradually they found their way to the home team's goal. Marlos swung the ball perfectly from a distance under the rack, forcing Gollini to show his skill. At the end of the first half Moraes realized a one-on-one with the goalkeeper after a pass from Alan Patrick, and before the break Marlos hit the crossbar from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Atalanta players acted more persistently in the attack. Pyatov had to save Shakhtar after a close-range strike by Zapata and neutralize Gomez's breakthrough. The hosts' coach Gasperini even went all-in, releasing striker Muriel instead of defender Massello. Shakhtar also had moments at the end of the match, but Stepanenko and Kovalenko did not take the opportunity. And already in overtime the winning goal of the Pitmen in the counterattack was created by the players who came on as substitutes: Dodo passed with the ball and passed to Solomon, and the Israeli dealt with Gollini. 1: 2.
