UEFA Executive Committee Decision: VAR in Euro-2020 Play-offs and Women's Champions League Group

At today's meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Nyon, Switzerland, a number of important decisions were made. The changes concerned both national team competitions and club competitions.

Expanding the use of VAR

UEFA official website informs that the Executive Committee has decided to use the VAR system in the March 2020 Euro Qualifiers and the 2022 European Qualifications to be approved by FIFA.

World Cup 2022 qualifying match format

The selection cycle will identify the 13 European teams that will play in the crucial stage of the 2022 World Cup. Under the new system, which has to be approved by FIFA, the final tournament will come out with 10 European Qualifiers winners and three teams following the match matches.

The latter will be played by 10 second-place holders in European qualifiers and the two best teams according to the UEFA Europa League rating 2020/2021, without those who have made it to the World Cup directly or got into second-place contact matches in their second-place holdings. .

UEFA Champions League among women

UEFA will change the format of the UEFA Women's Champions League in order to increase the competitiveness of women's club football. From the 2021/2022 season, the clubs in the first two rounds will be divided into Champions League (for National Association Champions) and League Leaders. As part of the qualification, the teams will compete for the group stage, where 16 clubs will play. At this stage, which will be the first time in the tournament, there will be four teams of four teams playing at home and away. The two strongest clubs in each quartet will reach the quarter finals.

UEFA Nations League draw

It was approved the UEFA 2020/2021 Group Stage draw procedure taking into account the new format, which was approved in September 2019 at the meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Ljubljana. The draw will take place on March 3, 2020 in Amsterdam and will start at 19.00 pm Kyiv time.

Schedule of Euro-2021 matches for women

The UEFA Executive Committee has approved the schedule for the final stage of the European Women's Championship. The tournament will be held from July 7 to August 1, 2021 in England, and the final will take place at Wembley in London.
