Eduard Sobol: We have been waiting for EURO XNUMX a lot, but maybe in a year we will be even stronger

Defender of the national team of Ukraine and Belgian "Brugge" Eduard Sobol In an interview with the UAF official website, he told how he spent time in quarantine and how he reacted to the Euro 2020 postponement.

- Edward, or do you miss quarantine a lot until national championships are suspended throughout Europe?

- Of course, I want to return to my favorite business as soon as possible. The other day, the Belgian football authorities decided to end the championship ahead of schedule. From a sports point of view, this is a difficult decision, but we, the players, should not discuss it.

As far as quarantine is concerned, apart from the lack of football, life in Belgium has hardly changed. Now coaches have painted us a program that everyone works individually. With the help of phones, coaches receive reports on their work. So it won't work.

- Is it possible to go outside without restrictions?

- When you train a lot, you have a tight schedule, and you don't go for a walk like that, because you feel tired after training and games. Now, of course, I don't often go outside, only when I go for a run and to the store. I watch movies, but now I have watched so many of them that I have never seen so many in my life ...

Local authorities recommend that no more than two people gather. People are also allowed to enter the shops so that there is no large crowds. But the tense situation is not felt, in stores everything is available. As for masks, it is also up to everyone to decide for themselves individually. 

- In this situation there was no desire to return to Ukraine?

- Would not be bad. But the borders are already closed, the airports are not working. So for now we will have to be here in Belgium.

- How did you react to the postponement of the European Championship?

- I think all the guys were looking forward to the final tournament and really wanted to play in the Euro. But in the current situation, it was probably the right decision to postpone the championship to stop this pandemic as soon as possible. I think when the virus recedes, everyone will have good emotions, and we will be able to think about the Euro again.

Health is at the forefront right now, and the transfer of the Euro may make us stronger, and we will be able to add in some of the components that national team coaches will point to in a year. But already it can be said that Andrey Shevchenko has spent a lot of work, with him the team has made progress and fulfilled the main task in the selection cycle.
