UEFA announces payments to clubs for players' participation in the Euro 2020 cycle

UEFA has already decided to pay € 70 million to 676 clubs from 55 national associations for their contribution to the national team competition.

Today, the UEFA Executive Committee has decided to immediately make payments to clubs for their contribution to the UEFA-sponsored national team competition, reports the official website of the organization.

Initially, the Union of European Football Associations planned to pay this money after the League of Nations head-to-head matches, in which the last participants of Euro 2020 were to be determined. But given that clubs' incomes are declining due to the global crisis, and financial obligations need to be met, payments will be made now.

Thus, clubs that have released players up to 50 national teams that will not take part in the European Championship qualifiers will receive 39 million euros.

€ 17,7 million will be awarded to clubs which have released players to the 16 national teams that are participating in EURO XNUMX play-offs (excluding deferred payments for the match matches themselves).

2,7 million euros will be given to clubs that will release players for head-to-head matches (these payments will be made in the autumn after the end of head-to-head matches).

In total, according to the memorandum of understanding between UEFA and the Association of European Clubs (AEK), which was renewed in 2019, at least 2020 million euros will be allocated to clubs in connection with Euro 200.

According to the payout mechanism approved by the UEFA Executive Committee, clubs that had been releasing players to EURO 70 qualifying matches and Nations League games will receive EUR 130 million. The remaining 2020 million will receive clubs whose players will go to European Championship final round.

These payments will help many clubs across Europe survive the crisis. Payments ranging from € 3 to € 200 will be made to 630 clubs from all 000 national associations that have contributed to the 676-55 European Championship and League UEFA qualifiers.

UEFA President Alexander Cheferin commented on the decision: “European clubs are an integral part of the success of our national team tournaments. As a result, part of the income from tournaments for national teams is allocated to clubs that released players for the match. In these difficult times, when many clubs are facing financial problems, especially related to cash flows, it is our duty to make sure that the clubs receive these payments as soon as possible. "
