Europa League. Shakhtar defeated Wolfsburg and reached the quarterfinals

Today, almost five months after Shakhtar's first game against Wolfsburg, the winner of this pair has been determined.

The match in Kyiv at the Olimpiysky National Sports Complex was one of the first two to renew the 2019/2020 European Cup draw, which was interrupted by a coronavirus pandemic. The game took place without spectators. In the time since the previous meeting, the Pitmen have won their fourth consecutive national championship, and their rivals finished seventh in the Bundesliga.

In general, Shakhtar managed to keep the game under control in the first half. Given the overall advantage in the score after the first match, it is not surprising that Donetsk chose an average pace in which they had excellent control of the ball and built their attacks better than the opponent.

In a few episodes, only the bad luck and the wonderful game of the Wolfsburg goalkeeper did not allow the orange and black to excel. In particular, Marlos scored in the post, and after the shots of Alan Patrick and Matvienko on the line, Castells acted successfully. In the first 45 minutes, the Wolves had reason to count on success only once, when two of his partners failed to close Victor's dangerous shot.

After the break, the game became more intense and open, and, as before, the hosts acted more sharply. Marlos showed excellent dribbling, Alan Patrick performed well-adjusted passes on the move. Castells worked under load, but he wasn't wrong, and Tyson, punching into the free corner of the goal, was a few inches wrong. In turn, "Wolfsburg" struck the first blow in the plane only in the 60th minute: Pyatov coped with a dangerous shot by Arnold from the penalty spot.

In the middle of the second half, Shakhtar remained in the minority due to the removal of Khocholava, who broke the rules, interrupting the dangerous counterattack of the opponent. But the lineups quickly leveled off - Brooks earned the second yellow card. At the end of the meeting, the champions of Ukraine finally opened the score: Moraes scored in the top corner after a shot by Dodo. And then Solomon realized the transfer of Konoplyanka, and Moraes made a double, using the pruning of opponents.
