The Pitmen's performance in the Europa League 2019/2020 ended at the semi-final stage, which consisted of one leg.

The match in Dusseldorf, Germany began at a slow pace. Teams acted cautiously, looking closely at each other. Inter's high pressure and the miners' uncharacteristic inertia prevented them from establishing their usual combination game. Inter did not look threatening either, as its players also had mistakes in the ball transitioning. But in the 19th minute the course of events changed.

Pyatov unsuccessfully put the ball into the game with his foot, Barella intercepted, went to the right wing and passed to Martinez, who, having won the position of Kryvtsov, opened the score with a header. If even with XNUMX:XNUMX score the black and blues did not give opponents the opportunity to counterattack, then after the goal the Pitmen had even less space.

Only in the 30th minute did Shakhtar manage to carry out an attack with a shot, but de Vrey blocked Moraes' attempt. Donetsk had a significant advantage in possession of the ball, but the Milanese defended extremely well and, with the exception of Marcos Antonio's shot from outside the penalty area, the orange and blacks did not create anything else before the break.    

In the second half, the Ukrainian champions continued to possess on the ball, but in general the game was controlled by the players of the Italian club. Luis Castro threw Solomon into battle earlier than usual, and soon Moraes made a dangerous shot from close range, but the break did not happen, as Inter scored a second time. After the corner, D'Ambrosio overjumped Matviyenko, burying the ball into the goal's far corner. When Martinez made a double after Stepanenko's mistake, the fate of the meeting was actually decided. In the remaining time, Lukaku also managed to make a double at Pyatov's goal.  

The Shakhtar match was played by the footballers, called up to the august's gathering national team of Ukraine: Pyatov, Kryvtsov, Matvienko, Stepanenko, Marlos (replaced in the 75th minute), Moraes, Konoplyanka (came on as a substitute in the 75th minute).
