Ukrainian U-21 Championship: plus four participants, minus one

Today at 11.00 Kyiv time the next championship of Ukraine among U-21 teams will start with two matches.

The new season will start with only four matches out of seven. After all, UPL newcomers - Mynai, Rukh and Inhulets - do not have time to form U-21 and U-19 teams. Just a week ago, on August 13, they played their last round last season in the First League. And, due to lack of time, they got an extra week to prepare. Due to this, the matches Inhulets - Dnipro-1, Vorskla - Rukh and Lviv - Mynai will take place later.

Shakhtar and Kolos, as well as Olimpik and Dynamo, will be the first to enter the season. On Friday, August 21, Desna will play against Zorya and Oleksandriya will play against Mariupol.

The number of participants in the U-21 championship this season has increased from 11 to 14 teams. Absolute newcomers were added - Mynai, Rukh and Inhulets, and Olimpik is returning, not having had a U-21 team for a season and a half due to disciplinary sanctions. Instead, the league lost Karpaty. Traditionally, a very strong team, which won the U-21 championship (2010), and once more got medals (2017).
