Ukrainian Super Cup 2020: Shakhtar and Dynamo to compete for the trophy in Kyiv

Today, on August 25, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv will challenge for the first trophy of the 2020/2021 season in the match for the Ukrainian Super Cup.

For the first time in the history will be held in Kiev,at the NSC Olimpiiskyi (kick-off - at 21.00). The starting whistle will give the referee of the match Vitalii Romanov from Dnipro, which will be assisted by Andrii Skrypka (Kropyvnytskyi) and Volodymyr Volodin (Kherson). Anatolii Abdula from Kharkiv has been appointed the fourth referee. The VAR system will also work on the match.

After reaching the semifinals of the Europa League, Shakhtar was forced to open a new season in the domestic arena almost immediately. In the first round of the Premier League, the Pitmen defeated Kolos (3: 1). Dynamo had more time to prepare, and at the start of the Ukrainian championship they beat Olimpik (4: 1).

Luis Castro will not be able to count on the injured Maksym Malyshev, Vladyslav Vakula and Ismaily. It should be noted that Shakhtar terminated the contract with Wellington Nem in summer and hired several players.

Dynamo replaced the head coach during the off-season - the team was led by Mircea Lucescu, who previously worked with Shakhtar. Also, many performers who spent the 2019/2020 season on loan have returned to the white and blue team. Denis Popov, Mykita Burda, Artem Shabanov, Vitaliy Mykolenko, Volodymyr Shepelev and Benjamin Verbych will not play in the match against the Pitmen due to injuries.

We will add that the current Ukrainian Super Cup is the 17th in history. Shakhtar and Dynamo won the trophy eight times each. Last year a club from Kyiv proved to be stronger.
