Kateryna Monzul: FIFA referee's list of historical appointments is being updated

Representatives of the Ukrainian referee corps received from UEFA a historic destination for European competitions.

As we have already reported, in the match of the Nations League Division D San Marino - Gibraltar, which takes place on November 14, a women's refereeing team from Ukraine will work led by Kateryna Monzul. Oleksandra Ardasheva and Maryna Striletska will help her on the lines. Anastasiya Romanyuk will perform the duties of the fourth official.

According to UEFA, for the first time in history, the team of referees in the match of national teams in Europe will be purely female (previously, women worked as the main referee or assistant in teams with men). And Kateryna Monzul will become the second woman - the main referee in the history of UEFA, who will work at match of this level. The first was the Frenchwoman Stephanie Frappar.

It will be recalled that last month our women's team of referees in the same composition worked at the qualifying match of Euro-2021 (U-21) Lithuania - Greece, which also became an event for the tournaments of men's youth teams.

Final of the World Cup, Euro and Olympics

Kateryna Monzul became a FIFA referee in 2004, and in September of the following year she made her international debut in a friendly match between the women's national teams of Finland and Poland.

Gradually, Monzul made her way to the main referee of the matches of the final tournaments (including the quarterfinals and semifinals) of the European and world championships among women's teams. She worked at Euro-2009, Euro-2013, Euro-2017, as well as at the World Cup-2015 and World Cup-2019. It should be noted that at the World Cup premiere, the Ukrainian judged the final, in which the US team defeated Japan - 5: 2. In general, 2015 can be considered significant in the career of the Kharkiv woman, because that year the International Federation of Football History and Statistics named Monzul the best referee in the world among women. Kateryna also has refereeing experience at the Olympic Games. For example, at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, she refereed two matches - between the United States and New Zealand in the group stage and between China and Germany in the quarterfinals.

Finals of the Champions League and the Cup of Ukraine

As for international club competitions, Monzul started working on them in parallel with the "increase" in Ukrainian football - in 2010-2011, Kateryna was appointed to the first league matches among men. At the same time, she began to appear as a referee in the field of the Women's Champions League match. And for four years, in 2014, the ambitious Kharkiv player worked in the Champions League final between "Tureso" and "Wolfsburg" (3: 4).

In the UPL, where she has been working since 2016, Monzul is currently considered one of the best referees, as evidenced by her demand in 2020. Among other things, with the direct participation of Kharkiv, the VAR system was introduced in Ukraine in February. Kateryna was already entrusted to work on top matches between Shakhtar and Dynamo. .
