Women's Euro-2022. Ukraine defeated Montenegro and will compete in the play-offs

In the final match of the group round of qualification for Euro-XNUMX women's national team of Ukraine defeated Montenegro at home and will compete in the play-offs.

Victories over Ireland (1:0) and Greece (4:0) allowed the blue-and-yellows to claim second place in the group. To continue the fight for Euro 2022, the Ukrainians had to beat the Montenegrins in the last match of the group tournament and hope that the Irish will not beat the Germans. In case of a draw in Kyiv, we were satisfied only with the defeat of Ireland.

Natalia Zinchenko's wards played a match with Montenegro at the Obolon Arena, the lawn of which was covered with a blanket of snow before the game, which significantly affected the quality of football.

The teams exchanged goals fairly quickly. In the 5th minute Basanska converted a penalty earned by Pantsulaya, but soon Djokovic equalized after a pass from the right flank.

Then both teams took the initiative in turn, but the Ukrainians attacked more sharply. In the 17th minute, after a counterattack and Khimich's shot, the opponent knocked the ball out of the goal line. Soon Kunina sent the ball inches from the post, and later Andrushchak's shot flicked over the bar. Rivals responded with a strike from Kuc, which Samson coped with.

At the beginning of the second half, Bozic facilitated the task for the Ukrainians by receiving a second yellow card. The vast majority of hosts pressed Montenegrins on their half. The blue-and-yellows made several dangerous shots past the goal, and in the 74th minute they finally took the lead: Kunina with an accurate finish knocked Ovdiychuk's cross from the left flank into the net.

Later Kozlova had a good moment, but the goalkeeper made a fine save. As a result, the Ukrainians retained the advantage and got three important points. Given the defeat of the Irish in a parallel game, our team has risen to second place in the group and will continue to fight in the playoffs of Euro 2022, whose matches are scheduled for April 2021.

Of the 47 teams participating in the Euro qualifiers, 15 will reach the decisive stage. Nine winners of the selected groups and the top three second teams will join England as the host of the European Championship. Six more second-placed teams in their groups will play in the last three matches in playoffs. These matches will take place on April 5-13, 2021.

It will be recalled that on April 23, the UEFA Executive Committee decided on postponement of the final part of the European Championship among the national women's national teams. Thus, the Euro in England will be held from 6 to 31 July 2022.
