2020: the results of the year for the women's national team of Ukraine
In 2020, the national women's national team of Ukraine played eight matches, in which won six times and suffered two defeats (the goals difference' - 18-6).
The blue-and-yellows started the year with a March gathering, during which they took part in the Pinatar Cup in Spain. There, at the start of the competition, Nataliya Zinchenko's team lost to Scotland - 0: 3, then defeated Northern Ireland - 4: 0 and in the last match were defeated by Iceland with a minimum score - 0: 1. As a result, the Ukrainians took third place.
The Spanish tournament was seen as a stage of preparation for the European Championship qualifiers, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, qualification was suspended and resumed only in the autumn. Being after the three defeats in the last, fifth place in the group, the national team of Ukraine had no more right to make a mistake. And the blue-and-yellows showed an outstanding result - five victories in a row, which returned them to the fight for a place at Euro-2022.
In September, the Ukrainians defeated Montenegro (3: 1) on the road and Greece (4: 0) at home. In October, a duel took place with the main competitor - Ireland. At Kyiv's Obolon Arena, the guests did not convert a penalty, and their own goal brought the Ukrainian girls the much-needed victory - 1: 0. In four days, Nataliya Zinchenko's team defeated Greece on the road with the same score as at home - 4: 0.
The last step remained, and Ukrainians made it at Obolon-Arena on the first day of winter, defeating Montenegro - 2: 1. This success secured them a final second place in the qualifying group and a ticket to the playoffs. Ukraine will compete in the play-off matches on April 5-13, 2021 to reach the final tournament. Opponent will be determined on March 5.
