Euro 2020. In the second round, the national team of Ukraine defeated the team of Northern Macedonia and improved their chances of reaching the playoffs

The second rival of the blue-and-yellows at Euro 2020 was the North Macedonian team, which suffered in the first round defeat from Austria, so they desperately needed points to catch the chance to participate in the play-offs./.

This time the application of Andriy Shevchenko's team did not include Zubkov, who was injured in match with the Netherlands, as well as Popov and Bezus. Apart from Zubkov, Sydorchuk was absent from the starting lineup compared to his debut match at the tournament. Instead of these two players, Shaparenko and Stepanenko came out from the first minutes.

At the the game took place mainly in the middle of the field, the teams fought for the ball. In the absence of a left winger, Mykolenko acted along the entire flank, assisted by midfielders, mostly Malinovskyi.

Quite quickly, the advantage of the Ukrainians began to emerge, who by the 9th minute had completed four attacks with dangerous shots. And in the 11th minute Yaremchuk fell almost alone with Dimitrievski, but instead of hitting, he decided to roll the ball under Malinovsky's shot, and the defender intercepted the pass. It took the North Macedonia team a quarter of an hour to create something significant ahead, and in the end several attacks by rivals posed some danger.

Despite these episodes, the blue-and-yellows dominated and in the middle of the half created a number of opportunities to score. Yarmolenko was on the edge three times, and in the 29th minute the captain scored his 42nd goal in the 96th match for the national team after a corner kick and Karavayev's pass. 1: 0. As in the match against the Netherlands, Yaremchuk scored a few minutes after Yarmolenko. Roman made a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and the same pass was given to him by the same Yarmolenko.

Shortly before the break, the ball was in the goal of Bushchan, but Pandev was offside. In general, in the first 45 minutes, Ukraine actually never gave reason to doubt its superiority, fully controlling the game. There were a lot of fouls from the opponents, but only Shaparenko received a yellow card, who tried in vain to earn an 11-meter, and the referee determined the simulation.

At the beginning of the second 45 minutes, North Macedonia created its first moment, and Bushchan showed an excellent reaction, parrying Ademi strike. And in a few minutes Traikovski hit a spectacular wide range shot, Bushchan moved the ball into the crossbar, and during the challenge for the rebound Karavayev fouled against Pandev. The referee appointed an 11-meter, Bushchan parried Alioski first shot, but was powerless against finishing.

In the second half, the Balkan team controlled the ball much better, and the blue-and-yellows had to work hard in defense. However, there were also moments in Dimitrievski penalty area. And, as a result, after watching the episode with the help of VAR, the referee made sure of the opponent's game with his hand during a free kick by Malinovskyi and awarded a penalty. However, Ruslan from could not beat the goalkeeper from the spot. But in the end, the Ukrainians kept the winning score. The fate of the ticket to the playoffs will be decided in the last round - in the match against Austria on June 11 in Bucharest.
