It will be recalled that in June 2020, the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Association Football proposed to the head coach of the national team of Ukraine Andriy Shevchenko and his coaching staff to extend the contract until the end of 2022.
Then, at the request of the coaching staff of the national team of Ukraine, the contract was signed for one year with a possible extension by mutual consent for another year and a half. Andriy Shevchenko and his coaching staff motivated their decision by the desire to move to club work after the European Championship, which Andriy Shevchenko has repeatedly said in interviews.
The Ukrainian Association of Football met and agreed to such terms of the contract.
Thus, on July 30, 2021, the contract between the Ukrainian Association of Football and the coaching staff of the national team expired.
The Ukrainian Association Football expresses its gratitude to Andriy Shevchenko and his assistants for their professional work in the main team of the country for five years. During this time, the national team of Ukraine has reached a new level of its development and achieved the greatest success in its history at the European Championships, completing the performance at Euro 2020 in the eight strongest teams on the continent.
A meeting of the UAF Executive Committee is scheduled for August 9, at which a decision will be made on the coaching staff of the national team of Ukraine.
Currently, the national team of Ukraine is playing in the 2022 World Cup qualifying. After three starting matches, the team has three points. The next qualifying matches for the national team of Ukraine are on September 1 away against the national team of Kazakhstan and on September 4 at home against the national team of France.
At the 2022 World Cup, 13 teams from UEFA will get the winners of 10 qualifying groups and three teams after a multi-level playoff, which will be attended by teams that will take second place in their groups.
