Volodymyr Yezerskyi: All matches in Poland were difficult, even against Malta

The youth national team of Ukraine (players not older than 2003) finished in the qualifying round of Euro-2022 (U-19) in first place in their group. About the impressions after the competition in Poland on the official website of the UAF told. at. head coach of the team Volodymyr Yezersky.

- Vladimir Ivanovich, your team has reached the elite round of Euro-2022. Are you all happy?

- It was possible to perform even better (smiles). I would like to thank the UAF leadership for providing conditions for preparation for the competition. For various reasons, we could not get together earlier. In addition, this team gathered for the first time, we had only two defective days for training. And here before the tournament and during it we lost three performers. That's how we approached our first official game.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to thank the coaches of Mariupol and Rukh, who came to meet us and played their championship match the day before, and also to thank the management of Dynamo and Shakhtar for the fact that only with their help the players arrived at the location of the national team as soon as possible, and in general - to express gratitude to all clubs for training players.

Did what you saw in the competitions performed by the rivals differ much from the information gathered before the tournament?

- It was easy for us to gather information about the favorites of our group - Finland and Poland, because they have held meetings many times over the last year. All our conclusions were confirmed. These are strong national teams, it was very difficult in the matches with them.

We had problems during the competition, but I am grateful to my assistants, Dmytro Mykhaylenko, Oleksandr Knyazev, Taras Lutsenko, as well as the administrative and medical staff, as they managed to recover the injured players in the shortest possible time.

- Which of the matches in the tournament was the most exciting, or, so to speak, the most nervous for you?

- All the matches in Poland were difficult, even against Malta, because, as I said, we, in fact, did not have time to prepare. We did not know our international level, because the youth tournaments were not held for two years. However, we were confident that we could win this group. Our footballers are good, they were able to understand the ideas of the coaches in the shortest possible time and transfer all this to the football field. Ukrainian players have gained tremendous experience, as these competitions significantly exceed the domestic championship and matches of the UEFA Youth League.
