Today, November 26, the women's national team of Ukraine will play its first match under the new head coach, Luis Cortes, - on the road will play against Scotland in the qualification for the 2023 World Cup.

The 2023 World Cup qualifier will take place in Glasgow, at Hampden Park Stadium (starting at 21.35 pm Kyiv time).

The day before, a change took place on the coaching staff of the national team of Ukraine - Natalia Zinchenko left the post, and in its place priyshov Spanish specialist Luis Cortes, who from 2009 to 2021 led the women's team of FC "Barcelona" (Spain).

"We understand what important matches await us. We know how important it is to get results in these games. But I always say that the result is the result of a lot of work in the right direction. I told the team that they had a hard job ahead of them that would allow them to move in the right direction. If we do that, we will have much more chances to win. This is our main idea. And we start working right now ", - said Luis Cortes after his appointment.

For the training camp, which began on November 22 in Kyiv, to prepare for and participate in the next qualifying matches of the 2023 World Cup were caused 22 players. Nadiya Havanska, Nikol Kozlova and Natia Pantsulaya will not help the team this time due to COVID-19.

The 51 national teams will play in a two-round tournament with home and away matches in nine groups: three groups of five teams (A-C) and six groups of six teams (D-I). The matches of this stage will take place in the period from September 2021 to September 2022.

Group B: Spain, Scotland, Ukraine, Hungary, Faroe Islands.

Playoffs

The nine teams that take second place in the groups will advance to the playoffs, which will consist of two stages.

The top three among the second teams will have the opportunity to play directly in the second stage of the playoffs. The remaining six participants will compete for three passes in single-match confrontations in the first stage. The three winners of the first round and the three teams that advanced directly to the second stage will determine the three winners of the UEFA playoffs in one-match duels.

The two winners of the second-ranked UEFA playoffs (criteria applied to the results of the group stage plus the playoffs of the second round) will receive two automatic places at the 2023 World Cup, while the third winner will continue his journey in the intercontinental playoffs.
