World Cup-2023. The women's national team of Ukraine lost the victory over Scotland in the last minutes

The women's national team of Ukraine lost to the team of Scotland in the qualifying match for the 2023 World Cup, playing a draw at Hampden Park in Glasgow - 1: 1.

Luis Cortes, for whom this match was his debut as a coach of the women's national team of Ukraine, surprised the composition and attitude to the game. A place in the goal instead of the experienced Irina Sanina was taken by a young Daryna Bondarchuk, Anna Petryk, who traditionally played on the flanks in defense, was sent to the center of midfield, and the Ukrainian team went to the match with hybrid tactics of five midfielders. Roxolana Kravchuk's attack, and insured the three back lines.

The match started without reconnaissance. The attacks of the Scottish national team, which was considered the favorite of this match, were combined with the counterattacks of the Ukrainian team. The swings of the first 20 minutes of the match were marked by sharp moments by Cuthbert and Harrison, while the guests responded with promising chances for Ovdiychuk and Andrukhiv.

The Ukrainians felt brave in the combination game, which the coaching staff of Luis Cortes has been trying to instill in the team since the first days of training, and the search for opportunities in the attack ended with a goal in the 23rd minute. Petryk took Kravchuk on a date with the goalkeeper with a split pass in the center, and Roksolana sent the ball exactly into the far bottom corner.

Having missed their own goal, the Scottish national team seized the initiative in the game. However, the best goal opportunity that the hosts created in the first 45 minutes came after a mistake by the blue and yellows. She unsuccessfully processed the ball after Basanska's pass, but Harrison failed to beat Bondarchuk.

Scotland dominated most of the second half. Cortes' wards found it difficult to overcome the high pressure of rivals in their own half of the field, who immediately enjoyed the loss of the ball. Only the British did not manage to overcome the tight defense of Ukrainian women, and in cases when it still happened, Bondarchuk showed excellent vigilance on the line.

In the 84th minute, the national team of Ukraine could close the match with a striking counterattack. Shevchuk on the left flank freed from the opponent and shot in the center, and Alexander in a jump covered the ball after a close shot by Khimich.

The national team of Ukraine was very close to win the premier game of the new coaching staff. But the end of the match turned out to be dramatic for the Ukrainian women. Blue and yellow missed on the penultimate minute of time compensated by the referee. Harrison saved the Briton from defeat with a well-aimed header, and the women's national teams of Scotland and Ukraine shared the points in their first qualifying match for the 2023 World Cup.
