Oleksandr Petrakov: I am satisfied with the dedication of young players, their attitude to the game

The head coach of the national team of Ukraine Oleksandr Petrakov commented on the successful start of the team in the UEFA Nations League-2022/2023.

The blue and yellow started their way in the new edition of the UEFA Nations League with victory over Republic of Ireland (1:0) at Aviva Stadium in Dublin. After the match, the head coach of the national team of Ukraine Oleksandr Petrakov spoke at a press conference.

- How satisfied are you with the changes in the team? What brought a positive result?

- We only had a very difficult match against Wales on 5 June. In order not to harm the boys, so that they do not get any injuries, I decided to let young performers who did not play play. I'm glad they came out and played. Many players made their official debuts. We will analyze the mistakes, but I am satisfied with the dedication of young players, their attitude to the game. Satisfied with the result. This is such a positive after what happened to Wales. We turned the page. We do not look into the past, but move forward.

- What does this victory mean for you, considering that 3,5 thousand Ukrainian fans were present in the stands, who were insanely happy with the success of the team?

- Now is the time. People who are in Ireland came. Thank you very much to this country for providing shelter to our women and children. I understand that everyone wants to go home, but now they can't go. We are very pleased to have made our citizens happy.

- You played in a rather offensive style. Do you think the Ukrainian national team is better than Ireland in this respect, because you decided to defend less and attack more?

- I instill attacking football in the team so that it is not afraid of anyone. As you liked it, thank you very much for appreciating the work of the coaching staff, our team. I like it.

- How do you assess the game of Andriy Lunin, who played the first dry match in a long time?

- I have known him since I was 15 years old. I know his father, mother. To me he is like a son. I am pleased that he played the official game, played to zero. I greeted him, like many guys. Many players made their debut for the national team in official tournaments. Lunin, Sirota, Bondar, Popov, Kacharaba, Pihalonok, Ignatenko… I am glad that they gained confidence. They were at the meeting, preparing. I am satisfied with them. Let's move on.

- You made 10 substitutions in the team, it gave the group of players self-confidence. Are you going to put the same players in the home match against Ireland or change the lineup?

- I do not look so far. Training tomorrow, June 11 - game with Armenia. Let's see how it will be. Today 11 new performers were supposed to play, but Eduard Sobol fell ill. That's why Vitaliy Mykolenko, whom I also know from childhood, played. He told me that all was well, that he would help. In the future we will look at the state of the players.

Finally, I would like to thank Ireland. You received us very well. I walked around the city, people approached me, wished me success, Ukraine. You sheltered our women and children. Thank you all very much, goodbye. See you again soon in Lodz.
