Euro-2023 (U-21): Slovakia commented on the choice of the home arena for the head-to-head match with the Ukrainian team

The assistant head coach of the youth national team of Slovakia, Tibor Golyan, commented on the choice of venue for the Euro 2023 (U-21) playoff home match against Ukraine.

According to the results of the Euro-2023 (U-21) qualification playoff draw, Ruslan Rotan's wards will meet the Slovakian team. The matches will be held on September 23 and 27 this year. Our team will play the first match against the Slovaks on the road — in Žilina, at the "Pod Dubnyom" stadium.

Tibor Golyan, assistant head coach of the Slovakian U-21 national team, in an interview official site of the National Football Association explained the choice of the home arena: "Given that we are playing in the return match against Ukraine in the city of Bielsko-Biala, we decided on Žilina from the point of view of logistics, organization, transport and distance. In March, we played qualifying matches against Northern Ireland and Spain at this stadium. Organizationally, everything went without problems, and people came en masse to support us. For example, at the game with the Spaniards, there were more than 3 fans in the stands. We believe that they will be at the stadium in September as well and will help us secure a comfortable lead ahead of the away match."

It should be noted that the youth national team of Slovakia defeated Northern Ireland (2023:21) and lost to Spain (2:1) in Group C in Žilina as part of the Euro-2 (U-3) qualifying tournament.

We will remind that the Ukrainians will nominally play their home match in the Polish city of Bielsko-Biała at the Municipal Stadium. The start time of the meetings will be determined later.

In the final part of the tournament there will be 16 teams - Romania and Georgia as hosts and 14 more teams that will join them based on the results of the qualifying (nine group winners, the best team among second place winners and four winners of the playoffs, which will play eight owners second places).

Participants of the final tournament: Romania, Georgia, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Spain, Norway, Italy, Switzerland.
