Season-2022/2023 in PFL: participants of competitions in the first and second leagues

The format, composition of participants and the calendar of competitions in the first and second leagues of the 2022/2023 season have been determined, reports PFL press service.

The war made adjustments to the course of the national football championship - many clubs of the first and second leagues were forced to suspend their participation. This forced the PFL, together with the clubs, to develop a new approach to the formation of the composition of the participants and the method of drawing the new competition season.

Thus, after consultations with all clubs, a decision was made to approve the composition of the participants of the Ukrainian football championship among the clubs of the first league of the 2022/2023 season (two groups - group A and group B) according to the territorial principle.

We will remind that the tournament in the first league 30 years ago (in the premier championship of 1992) was already held according to this format. In the 2022/2023 season, it is planned to hold the competition in two stages — two groups of eight teams each, two rounds of 14 rounds, 56 matches in each group in the first stage (112 matches in total).

In the second stage, the 1st-4th places in the groups form a group for the UPL, taking into account the points obtained in the first stage in the games between themselves. And 5-8 places form a group for the right to play in the first league, taking into account the results of the games between themselves in the first stage.

In the second stage, the teams of group A play matches only with the teams of group B in two rounds, 32 matches in each group, the teams will play 8 matches each.

In total, 176 matches will be played in the championship. Each team will play 22 matches. The two best teams get the right to go directly to the UPL, the third and fourth teams of the first league play playoff matches for promotion in the class - the third place of the first league plays with the 14th place of the UPL, the fourth place of the first league plays with the 13th place of the UPL .

The drawing of the calendar took place immediately after XXX PFL Conferencewhich took place today.

The calendar of competitions is available for perusal group A and group B.

It was also decided to approve the composition of the participants of the Ukrainian football championship among clubs of the second league for the 2022/2023 season.

11 teams of the second league will play in two rounds. The first place is promoted in the class directly, the second place will play a match with the penultimate place of the first league.

If FC Desna and FC Mariupol are confirmed to participate in the 2023/2024 UPL championship, playoff matches will not be held. The number of UPL teams increases to 18.
