The Ukrainian beach soccer team lost to Spain and will compete for the third place in the selection tournament of the World Beach Games
The Ukrainian national beach soccer team played a semi-final match of the European selection for the 2023 World Beach Games in Catania.
On September 2, the wards of Mykola Kostenko played a real thriller in the match of the 1/4 finals of the tournament, defeating in overtime the host of the competition — Italy (5:4 OT). Success in this match provided the Ukrainians with a ticket to the 2023 World Beach Games.
Today, in the semi-finals, our team faced an equally strong opponent - Spain, which ranks seventh in the BSWW world ranking.
The Spaniards started the first period more actively, which resulted in an own goal by Zavorotny and a spectacular ball by Arias. However, the blue-yellow team did not get together and thanks to the accurate shots of goalkeeper Kovalenko and Voytenko managed to level the situation within a minute.
In the second 12-minute period, after strikes by Domingo and Chiki, the Pyreneans pulled away again by two goals, and in the third period they even increased their advantage. Dona, Chiki and Arias' goal was answered by Pashko and Korniychuk. Nevertheless, emotional and physical fatigue after the grueling match with the Italians showed - 7:4 in favor of Spain.
Tomorrow our team will play a match for the third place.
