In the 3rd round of the Champions League group tournament, Shakhtar Donetsk lost to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In the previous matches of the Champions League, Miners won a bright away victory over "Leipzig" (4:1) and drew with "Celtic" (1:1). Now Ihor Jovičević's wards were expected to be tested by the current winner of the main European Cup, Real Madrid. In the first half, the hosts dominated the field and quickly took the lead. In the 13th minute, Rodrigo passed Stepanenko in the center and beat Trubin with a shot from the penalty line. Later, Shakhtar's goalkeeper managed to block Benzema's shot into the far corner. However, in the 28th minute, Madrid doubled their advantage after a great combination of Benzema - Rodrigo - Vinicius.

Then "Real" could make the score devastating, but Valverde, Vinicius and Benzema could not score. Trubin, the defenders or the size of the goal stood in the way. It is all the more surprising that shortly before the break, Shakhtar won one goal. Mudryk gave Mykhailichenko to the wing, and Zubkov converted Bohdan's pass into a goal with an incredible side "scissors" kick.

At the beginning of the second half, Real Madrid had several shots on goal, in particular, Trubin responded to Valverde's powerful shot from outside the penalty area. The players responded with a lunge from Mudryk, who broke into the penalty area, but Mykhailo was not allowed to break through. In the 64th minute, Rodrigo beat Benzema and shot from close range - Trubin saved. In the next attack, Vinicius already forgave "Shakhtar", scoring over the "nine" from the goal position.

At the end of the meeting, the hosts were closer to the goal. Trubin parried a shot by Vinicius, Benzema shot near the post, then the goalkeeper of the miners managed to deal with another attempt by Karim from the penalty area, and already in the time added by the referee, Asensio hit the post after a ricochet from Jurasek. In the end, the Ukrainian team failed to change the score — 1:2.
