WU-17: the women's national team of Ukraine failed to beat Estonia and will leave League A for Euro-2023

In Estonian The Euro-2023 (WU-17) League A tournament with the participation of the women's national team of Ukraine has ended in Tallinn. The hosts became the last opponents of the blue and yellow team.

It will be recalled that due to full-scale aggression by Russia and the martial law in Ukraine, our team could not perform in the second round selection for Euro-2022 and formally took the last, fourth place in the group, but the UEFA Executive Committee decided to leave the women's national team of Ukraine in the elite due to Russia's disqualification. Thus, she remained in League A.

In the previous matches of the group, Serhiy Sapronov's wards lost to England (0:11) and Denmark (1:4). Therefore, in order to maintain registration in League A, our team needed to beat the hosts - the Estonians.

During the match, the blue-yellow team threatened the opponent's goal several times, but failed to score. The Estonians themselves hit the goal frame once and in the end managed to keep the score 0:0.

As a result, the Ukrainian women took fourth place in the group with a goal difference worse than that of their competitors, so they will continue the season in the second round in League B, the draw for which will take place on December 7 of this year.

There are 28 teams playing in League A (including seven who moved from League B following the results of the second round of the 2021/2022 season, which ended in the spring). They were divided into seven groups. Teams of the same group will play in the same arena in the format of mini-tournaments. The fourth-place teams will continue their season in the second round in League B.

The seeding of the participants before the second round will depend on which places in their groups the teams will occupy in the first round. Estonia also took part in the competition, despite a direct ticket to the final part, which belongs to them as hosts.

League B teams (including teams relegated from League A in the second round of the 2021/2022 season) will compete for promotion to League A in six groups. The group winners and the runners-up with the best record against the first and third-placed teams in their groups will advance to the top division.
