Euro-2023 (U-19). The youth national team of Ukraine defeated the team of Cyprus and prematurely advanced to the elite round of selection

Today, the youth national team of Ukraine U-19 (football players not older than 2004) continued their performance in the Euro-2023 qualification.

After the victory over Kosovo (1:0) Serhiy Nagornyak's wards played their second match in group 3 in the Swedish city of Norrköping (Norrköpings Idrottsparken stadium) against the Cyprus national team.

Blue and yellow started the first half well and took the lead in the 10th minute. Alexandros Kaifas fouled in his own penalty area, and Ivan Varfolomeev converted the penalty. However, the Cypriots did not relent and regained the balance in 10 minutes. The goal was achieved by Andreas Savva's shot - 1:1.

In the second half, Serhiy Nagornyak's joker Anton Tsarenko, who came on as a substitute in the 58th minute, decided the case. Soon, the "Dynamo" midfielder scored a double within two minutes, which turned the tide of the match. Oleg Fedor put an end to it in the 79th minute — 4:1.

Thus, the U-19 national team of Ukraine scored six points and secured a place in the elite round of Euro-2023 selection, as it will not finish below the second line. Only the question remains open from which place the blue and yellow will qualify. Our team will play its next match on November 23 against Sweden.

As a reminder, the first two teams from each of the 13 groups and the best winner of the third place (based on the results of the matches with the first and second teams of the group) will join Portugal in the elite round of selection in the spring of 2023. Malta's national team won a direct pass to the final stage as the host of the tournament. The winners of the seven groups of the elite round will go there. The draw for this stage of the tournament will take place on December 8 of this year.
