The Ukrainian team of girls and boys was formed by the Odesa charity foundation "The Way Home", which provides services and assistance to homeless people, including street children. Back in October 2008, the "Red Card for Children's Neglect" football project was launched at the "Way Home" OBF. A children's street football team was formed from the foundation's pupils - FC "Domovychok".

As practice shows, teenagers willingly change their lifestyle if they are offered a really good alternative. One such alternative is football. Social adaptation through sport has become a successful strategy in many countries because the passion for football has a unique ability to blur the boundaries between people. With the support of integration programs, sport becomes a means of creating new opportunities for children and adolescents who have passed severe life tests.

Street football is a sport in which there is no gender discrimination. Football develops respect and trust, team spirit and will, self-belief and the desire to win. For the boys and girls who trained and continue to train in the team, football lessons helped them adapt in society, improve their health, and most importantly, gave them incomparable satisfaction from their own victory. This is something that is imprinted in the memory forever, something that will support them throughout their lives when things are difficult or even scary. After all, memories remained of how, stepping over themselves, they went to victory.

The Ukrainian team brought home the FIFPRO Fair Play Award for its positive sportsmanship during the tournament.
