Euro-2023 (U-17). The youth national team of Ukraine began the elite round of selection with a victory over Cyprus

Today, March 7, the youth national team of Ukraine U-17 (football players not older than 2006) started their performance in the elite round of Euro-2023 qualification with a match against Cyprus. 

The wards of Yuriy Moroz played their first match of group 6 against the hosts of the mini-tournament in the Cypriot city of Paphos at the stadium named after Stelios Kyriakides.

Our boys quickly took the game under their control and gained a comfortable advantage. In the 9th minute, Khan took advantage of Ishchenko's penetrating pass and scored a cool, effective shot into the back nine. Soon, the guests scored a second goal - Bely received the ball in the penalty area and beat the goalkeeper.

After that, the Cypriots added something in the attack, moments began to arise near the goal of Bacchus, and shortly before the break, Avramidis found himself in a striking position and reduced the deficit of the islanders. Moreover, already in the time added by the referee, the hosts had several more chances to score.

However, in the second half, Yuriy Moroz's wards brought the case to victory. In the 60th minute, Kalin burst into the penalty box, beat two goal-keepers and pushed the ball past the keeper. Later, Vladyslav could have scored again, but this time Pischias saved his team. Later, Sophokleus had a great moment for the Cypriots, but he missed the target, and later, from a few meters, he was unable to mark Konstantin.

Instead, in the 82nd minute, the blue-and-yellow team scored for the fourth time, when Ponomarenko blocked Pashko's pass with his head. After that, the home team managed to score one goal from the penalty spot.

As a result, the youth national team of Ukraine started its performance in the elite round of selection with a victory — 4:2. Our team will play its next match on March 10 against Ireland.
