Today, March 22, with a match against Luxembourg, the youth national team of Ukraine U-19 (football players not older than 2004) began their performance in the elite round of Euro-2023 qualification.
Serhiy Nagornyak's wards gathered on March 19, flew from Budapest to Spain in the morning of the 20th, and held a pre-game training session on the 21st. In the Pyrenees, our football players face the hosts of the tournament, as well as the national teams of Luxembourg and Denmark.
The blue and yellow started in the elite round with a game against their Luxembourg peers in the city of Badajoz. The Ukrainians managed to open the scoring in the 12th minute — Gorbach scored from a pass by Buleza. However, the rivals soon recovered after Elshan's well-hit shot. Later, both teams created chances, but they did not manage to change the score before the break.
In the 59th minute, the Ukrainians found themselves in a difficult situation, as Elshan scored a double. Serhiy Nagornyak immediately reacted with four substitutions, but our boys did not manage to change the course of the match. In stoppage time, both teams remained tied at ten.
As a result, the youth national team of Ukraine began its performance in the elite round of selection with a defeat - 1:2. Our team will play its next match on March 25 against Denmark.
