The head coach of the youth national team of Ukraine U-19 Serhiy Nagornyak summed up the results of his team's performance in the elite round of the Euro-2023 selection.
The youth national team of Ukraine (football players not older than 2004) performed unsuccessfully in the elite round of Euro-2023 qualification (U-19), losing all matches of their group to Luxembourg - 1:2, Denmark - 1:2 and Spain - 0:4. The main coach of the blue and yellow Serhii Nagornyak told the official UAF website about the reasons for this result.
"There is no result, and the coach is to blame for that," Nagornyak said. — Although, by and large, there were also objective reasons. It took the team 36 hours to get to the venue in Spain, and we only had one training session. Of course, this also affects the result, despite even the level of the opponent. Besides injuries of leading players, who could not come, were tangible for us. Despite this, I am grateful to my wards who tried to look dignified.
For example, already in the first match, with Luxembourg, it will be seen that somewhere in the middle of the first half, the boys started to slump. In the second match, against Denmark, I think the score was not due to the game, but the Ukrainian national team was unlucky. And it is difficult to comment on the match with Spain. Already in the 6th minute we lost - 0:2. Everything was against us in this meeting. Yes, we must admit that the Spaniards were stronger than us. In general, I believe that Spain will be one of the main contenders for winning the European Championship.
