Euro-2025 (U-21). The youth national team of Ukraine started the qualification with a victory over the team of Northern Ireland

Today, September 12, the youth national team of Ukraine held its opening match of the Euro-2025 selection (U-21) — against the team of Northern Ireland.

Four days ago, the blue-and-yellow team played their first match under the leadership of Unai Melgosa, losing to their peers from Germany in sparring (0:2). Now our team was waiting for the start in the qualifying tournament Euro-2025 (U-21). Ukrainians hosted Northern Ireland in Poprad, Slovakia.

Our team immediately took possession of the ball, but the opponents skillfully defended. Only in the 20th minute did Bragaru hit the target, but later he failed to hit the far corner. Later, the Irish almost took advantage of a mistake by Saluk, who unsuccessfully threw it to Nescheret, but Roman knocked the ball out of the line. At the end of the first half, Marshall shot from a distance and Smolyakov, after playing with Rubchinsky, forced the goalkeepers to react.

The second half of the game started with McGuckin hitting the plane. The Ukrainians regained control of the ball, but the real danger near the opponent's goal was not reached. Instead, in the 63rd minute, McGuckin broke through the left flank, entered the penalty area and shot into the near corner - Nescheret saved.

However, substitutions from Unai Melgosa affected the course of the game. In the 70th minute, Roman completed the combination with the participation of Kvasnytsia and Krasnoper with an accurate shot from the penalty line — 1:0. At the end of the meeting, the Ukrainians made a few more shots on goal, while the opponents did not manage to seriously disturb Nescheret. So the blue-yellows start with a win.
