Women's League of Nations-2023/2024. The national team of Ukraine defeated Serbia and will play in the face-off matches to keep a place in League B

Today, with a match against Serbia, the women's national team of Ukraine ended the struggle in the group round of the first ever Nations League draw.

Four days ago, Volodymyr Pyatenko's wards surrendered to Poland (0:1) and after this defeat lost any chance to compete for a place in League A. In order not to be relegated directly to League C, the blue-yellow team had to collect maximum points in order not to miss Greece or become the third worst team in League B.

The final match of the 6th round between Serbia and Ukraine took place in the Serbian town of Stara Pazova at the central stadium of the football base of the national teams.

The teams spent the first half on equal footing. In our national team, Girin was the most active, she hit several shots, Glushchenko wasted her moment. For the Serbs, the most dangerous were the attempts of Polyak and Damnyanovich.

At the beginning of the second half, Glushchenko found herself in a striking position in the penalty area, but Kostych came to the rescue. However, in the 55th minute, our team took the lead - the goalkeeper parried Khimich's shot, but Girin managed to finish. In the end, the blue-yellow team managed to keep the advantage and beat the hosts — 1:0.

Thus, the national team of Ukraine took third place in the group and managed to overtake Slovenia in the ranking of the third teams, thus avoiding relegation to League C. Now Volodymyr Pyatenko's wards are waiting for face-to-face matches that will take place in February 2024 (the draw is on December 11). Potential rivals include Bulgaria, Latvia, and Montenegro.
