Vasily Malik: “I hope our cup path will be longer this time”

On the eve start of the next draw Cup of Ukraine, we talked with the head coach of FC "Kalush" Vasyl Malik.

"I have both positive and negative memories of cup battles," Malik said. - Even when I was defending the colors of Simferopol's Tavriya, in 1987 we reached the semifinals of the Cup of the former Soviet Union, where we lost to Minsk's Dynamo. But the Stryi "Skala" headed by me invariably lost the first cup matches. I hope that I will be lucky to correct this unpleasant tradition in the match against Bukovyna.

— Did everything manage to be done during the preparatory period?

- Unfortunately, we held only three sparring matches, another one with Ternopil's Niva did not take place, and I feel that my wards lack playing practice. However, the main thing is that we have worked well in the transfer market, and now in "Kalush" there are two equal performers for each position. I hope that this competition will also help to progress.

- Is there any interest in Kalush in the cup match against Bukovyna?

- Last season, when Kalush played in the Ukrainian amateur championship, there were about a thousand fans at each of the home matches. Unfortunately, it is raining in Kalush these days, and I do not rule out that bad weather will affect attendance. Still, I hope that 400-500 spectators will come to the stadium. We are very much counting on their support.
