Joint Statement of the Football Federation of Ukraine and Kharkiv Regional State Administration on holding a UEFA Super Cup match in Kharkiv

Only two years ago, after a prolonged forced break, Kharkiv's Football Federation of Ukraine and the Kharkiv Oblast leadership managed to bring back big football.

Since then, three matches of the national team of Ukraine have taken place at the Metalist Stadium, in which the main team of the country has won three convincing victories. The recent triumph of the national team under the leadership of Andriy Shevchenko in the match with the Czech Republic became historic. Following the results of this meeting, the blue-yellows secured the first place in group B1 of the UEFA League of Nations premier tournament and entered the 12 strongest national teams of Europe.

It is important that UEFA and FIFA noted the high quality of the organization of international matches in Kharkiv. In addition, the players of our national team, the coaching staff and the experts noted the special atmosphere created by the fans at Metalist with their positive emotions.

For the second year in a row, the city hosts matches of the group stage of the most prestigious club tournament - the UEFA Champions League. In addition, this year, for the first time in history, three victorious matches of the qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League among women and a match of the 1/1 finals of the competition took place in Kharkiv.

This successful experience became the basis for a joint decision of the leadership of the Football Federation of Ukraine and the Kharkiv Regional State Administration to prepare an application for a match for the UEFA Super Cup in 2021 at the stadium "Metalist".

The Football Federation of Ukraine has informed UEFA about its readiness to fight for the right to hold this match in Kharkiv. All the necessary documents for a full application, in accordance with the requirements of UEFA, will be collected jointly by the FFU and the management of HODA by February 2019.

There is every reason to expect that Kharkiv will be able to hold the UEFA Super Cup match at the highest level. Confirmation of this is the organization of the Champions League final in Kiev this May, which has earned the highest praise from the UEFA leadership.
