League of Nations. A wonderful series of penalties from Alexander Shovkovsky with Switzerland

Throughout its history, the Ukrainian national team has only met twice with the team Switzerland, which will become the first contender of blue and yellows in in Nations League 2020/2021.

However, we are sure that one of these matches is still the brightest page in the life of our national team. It happened in Cologne, Germany as part of the 1/8 finals of the 2006 World Cup, when Oleg Blokhin's team defeated the opponent 0-0 in a series of post-match penalties (main and extra time of the game ended in a draw - 3: 0). The real hero of that battle was the current assistant of Andriy Shevchenko in the national team Oleksandr Shovkovsky, who did not allow the Swiss to ever score from the 11-meter mark.

We will add that two football players who are the performers of today's national team of Ukraine, Andriy Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka, already have goals scored in Switzerland - in November 2010.
