FC Chornomorets (Odessa) celebrates its 85th anniversary

Today marks 85 years since the founding of one of the most popular football clubs in Ukraine.

March 26, 1936 is considered the official date of creation of FC "Chornomorets", because on this day a resolution was issued by the All-Union Committee of Physical Culture on the creation of demonstration teams in the cities of the USSR to play in the first championship of the country. Initially, the club was called "Dynamo", later - "Kharchovik", "Spartak", "Metallurg" and - since 1958 - "Chernomorets".

In Soviet times, the Odessa team, which became the city's business card and had a large army of fans, became a bronze medalist of the USSR Championship (1974), winner of the first league tournament (1961, 1973, 1987), won the USSR Football Federation Cup (1990).

At the time of independence, the real heyday of "Chernomorets" came in the mid-90s, when the club twice in a row under the leadership of head coach Leonid Buryak won silver medals at the Ukrainian Championship (1995, 1996). Earlier, in 1993 and 1994, the people of Odessa, then led by Viktor Prokopenko, twice won bronze. The club is also a two-time winner of the Cup of Ukraine (1992, 1994). The last medals, bronze of the championship, were won by sailors in 2006 - with Semyon Altman at the head. Currently, the club plays in the first league.

The Ukrainian Football Association congratulates the employees of FC Chornomorets, all Odessa football fans and club fans from other cities on the anniversary!
