Remembering Valery Lobanovskyi: 21 years ago, the most outstanding coach in the history of Ukrainian football passed away

21 years ago, on May 13, 2002, the heart of one of the most outstanding coaches of Ukrainian and world football — Valery Vasyliovych Lobanovskyi — stopped.

The long-time coach of Dynamo Kyiv led the club to gold medals in the USSR championship eight times, five times to the highest awards of the Ukrainian championship, won the Cup Winners' Cup with the White and Blues (1975, 1986) and the UEFA Super Cup (1975). In 2000-2002, Valery Lobanovsky headed the national team of Ukraine. He managed to bring the Ukrainians to the playoffs of the 2002 World Cup qualifiers, but, unfortunately, the blue and yellows were not destined to go to the World Cup. The future silver medalist of the world championship, the German national team, became the path of the Ukrainian team.
