League of Nations draw 2024/2025. The national team of Ukraine is waiting for opponents in the B division

The 8/2024 League of Nations drawing ceremony will take place in Paris on Thursday, February 2025 (starting at 19:00 Kyiv time). The national team of Ukraine is waiting for opponents in the B division.

Divisions A, B, and C will feature 16 national teams each, while Division D will feature six teams. 

Ukraine got into the second basket of League B and will receive one opponent each from the first, third and fourth baskets. 

The baskets are formed in accordance with the rating of the national teams based on the results of the League of Nations-2022/2023. Russia, the only one among all UEFA members, was again not allowed to compete.

Pot 1: Spain, Croatia, Italy, the Netherlands.

Pot 2: Denmark, Portugal, Belgium, Hungary.

Pot 3: Switzerland, Germany, Poland, France.

Pot 4: Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Scotland.

Pot 1: Austria, the Czech Republic, England, Wales.

Pot 2: Finland, Ukraine, Iceland, Norway.

Pot 3: Slovenia, Ireland, Albania, Montenegro.

Pot 4: Georgia, Greece, Turkey, Kazakhstan.

Pot 1: Romania, Sweden, Armenia, Luxembourg.

Pot 2: Azerbaijan, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Faroe Islands.

Pot 3: North Macedonia, Slovakia, Northern Ireland, Cyprus.

Pot 4: Belarus, Lithuania/Gibraltar, Estonia, Latvia.

Seedings of League D participants

Pot 1: Lithuania/Gibraltar, Moldova.

Pot 2: Malta, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein.

In divisions A, B and C, participants will be divided into four groups of four teams each. There will be two groups of three teams in Division D.

The A-League group winners and runners-up will take part in home-and-away LN quarter-final matches, with the winners of those fixtures qualifying for the final four. The national teams that will take the last places in their quartets will move to the B division.

The top teams in Divisions B, C and D will be promoted to Divisions A, B and C respectively. The bottom teams in Division B will be promoted to Division C. The two worst teams in Division C will be promoted to Division D. 

The third-placed teams in League A and third-placed teams in League B will play a home-and-away promotion/relegation play-off against the second-placed teams in League B groups and second-placed teams in League C groups, respectively. The two best teams from the bottom of League C will face the runners-up teams of League D groups. 

What awaits Ukraine in League B?

As you know, according to the results of the League of Nations 2022/2023, the national team of Ukraine, taking second place in their group, remained in League B.

After the format change, a participant in the group tournament in League B, where Ukraine will play, if the following:

  • the first place will go up to League A;
  • runner-up — will play head-to-head matches with the team that finishes third in League A group;
  • third place — will play a tie-breaker with the team that finishes second in the C League group;
  • the fourth place will be relegated to League C.

Head-to-head matches are scheduled for March 2025.

The places occupied by the 2024/2025 League of Nations participants will determine which group, with four or five teams, they will fall into in the 2026 World Cup selection.

The teams drawn in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers into groups of five will start the tournament in March or June 2025, if they are still participating in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals or in the LN promotion/relegation matches. The teams, divided into groups of four participants, will begin qualifying for the World Cup in September 2025.

1st round: September 5-7, 2024.

2st round: September 8-10, 2024.

3st round: October 10-12, 2024.

4st round: October 13-15, 2024.

5st round: November 14-16, 2024.

6st round: November 17-19, 2024.

Playoffs: March 17-25, 2025.

Final Four: June 2-10, 2025.

Tickets for the World Cup 2026 — through the League of Nations

The selection for the 2026 World Cup in the European zone, where 16 tickets will be played, will last from March 2025 to March 2026 and will consist of two rounds.

Round 1: 12 groups of five or four teams will play between March and November 2025 according to the traditional group system. 12 group winners will receive direct tickets to the final stage.

The 12 runners-up teams and the four best 2024/2025 UEFA Nations League group winners who finish below second place in the group stage of European qualification will take part in knock-out mini-tournaments.

Round 2: the contact mini-tournaments in March 2026 will consist of one-match semi-finals and finals. 16 participants will be divided into four playoff ways. Four winners will receive tickets to the 2026 World Cup.
