Myron Markevich: "I want justice to win in Lausanne"
Myron Markevich, Chairman of the UAF National Teams Committee, summed up the 2020 football results.
In an interview with the official website of the UAF, Honored Coach of Ukraine Myron Markevich not only spoke about the national team of Ukraine, but also shared his opinion on the performance of the national football giants, Shakhtar and Dynamo, in the European Cups.
- Myron Bogdanovich, can 2020 be called a successful year for our national team?
- In principle, yes. The Blue and Yellows did not get lost in Division A of the League of Nations. I believe that Andriy Shevchenko's team has earned the right to remain among the best European teams. And the match with Spain in general was almost the best in the performance of the national team of Ukraine in recent times. The only thing that spoiled the impression was a crushing defeat in a friendly match against France, but there were reasons for that.
We have, and it can not help but rejoice, new names, so I look to the near future of the team with optimism.

- Can the verdict of the Sports Arbitration Court in Lausanne be in our favor?
- For me, it was an incomprehensible decision at first. Our team was in Switzerland, preparing for the match and ready to play, and some doctor wanted the match not to take place. I very much hope that justice will prevail in Lausanne.
- Who was the leader of the blue-yellows last year?
- I would not single out anyone. The whole team deserves warm words. Young people still need time, but it is clear that the guys are stretching, trying.
- Did the youth team not stand aside in this process?
- Exactly. There was no result? He will come. Ruslan Rotan performed the main task of supplying personnel for the national team.
- Will the national team of Ukraine be stronger before the start of the Euro?
- There are all prerequisites for this. I believe that the blue and yellows on the forum will be able to surprise many. The main thing is for the European Championship to take place, because with the current situation it is unclear what will happen tomorrow.
- Turning to the club's affairs, we can't help but ask you about Dynamo and Shakhtar, which earned the right to play in the Europa League playoffs following the group round of the Champions League ...
- I think it was clear from the very beginning that Dynamo will have to fight only for the third place in their group. The teams that played in this quartet are already in different weight categories (in addition to Kyiv, Barcelona, Juventus and Ferencvaros played in the group. - Approx. Ed.).

But Shakhtar had a good chance to reach the Champions League playoffs. And it's not the last match of the group. If Luis Castro's team had caught at least one draw in one of the matches against Borussia Gladbach, everything could have turned out differently. However, the miners performed so well in such a complex quartet. It is expensive to win twice against Real Madrid and draw twice with Inter.
- Even if we assume that Shakhtar would make it to the Champions League playoffs, what next?
- It would be extremely difficult to pass at least one round, as almost the bison came out by the 1/8. Although leaving the group would be considered an achievement for the Ukrainian team.
- Were our clubs lucky to some extent with the draw of the Europa League?
- Without belittling the merits of Israeli Maccabi TA, Shakhtar is obliged to beat this opponent, and I think the chances for Dynamo Brugge are 50 to 50.

- At this stage - yes. It is clear that discipline has appeared on the field. For the first time in four years, the team reached the main grid of the Champions League, making its way to the spring part of the European Cups. In the championship, Dynamo is in first place, so so far everything is going well for them. However, in winter Dynamo is extremely important to strengthen. I don't think a good striker would interfere, and in the middle of the field in white and blue not everything is smooth.
- Before the start of the season, everyone said in one voice that Shakhtar will have no competitors in the fight for gold medals in the current championship as well…
- I really want to hope that this fight will continue until the last round, because the intrigue in the last championship died before the snow came down. However, it is good that the competitions themselves, given the epidemiological situation, ended thanks to the leadership of the national association not in the offices, but on the football field ...
Next spring, I expect an interesting fight both in the domestic arena and in the Europa League.
