2021: the results of the year for the women's national team of Ukraine

In 2021, the national women's national team of Ukraine played 10 matches, in which it won three, drew twice and suffered five defeats (the difference between goals scored and conceded - 13-26).

The blue-and-yellow team started the year with a training camp in Turkey in preparation for the 2022 European Championship play-off matches. In Alanya, Natalia Zinchenko's team played two friendly matches: in the first sparring, the Ukrainians parted ways with the Serbs - 1: 1, and in the second they won a strong-willed victory over the Indians - 3: 2.

During the draw for the decisive qualifying round of Euro-2022, which took place in March, the women's national team of Ukraine defeated the team of Northern Ireland, which has repeatedly beaten in previous matches, control and official.

But in the April clashes with the British, the blue and yellows suddenly failed, failing for the second time in their history to make it to the continental championship. They lost a goal shootout in Kovalivka (1: 2), and in a few days lost to opponents in Belfast (0: 2).

In the summer, the Ukrainian team agreed to an invitation from Japan to hold a sparring match with the local team, which is one of the leaders in world women's football. A significant difference in the class was reflected in the final score of the match in Hiroshima (0: 8), but it is in matches with such strong opponents that the players gain experience.

In September, the women's national team of Ukraine began preparations for the selection campaign for the 2023 World Cup. Our girls finally managed to break a series of failures and even without a few leaders in the team to win the control game with the Turkish team in Kiev (1: 0).

Natalia Zinchenko's team started the selection for the World Cup with a crushing home win against the Faroe Islands (4: 0). However, in the next game, the Ukrainians could not resist a powerful Spanish team, in which the vast majority are players of "Barcelona", which triumphed this year in the UEFA Women's Champions League (0: 6).

In November, Natalia Zinchenko completed her work with the national women's team, and Spanish specialist Luis Cortes was invited to lead the blue-and-yellow team. — creator of the same fairy tale "Barcelona" in the domestic and international arena.

In the first matches under the leadership of Luis Cortes, the women's national team of Ukraine began to rebuild in a new way, but this process also affected the team's results in qualifying for the 2023 World Cup. The Ukrainians almost sensationally beat Scotland in Glasgow, conceding an annoying goal before the final whistle (1: 1), and the final match of 2021 unexpectedly lost to Hungary. The Ukrainian team had more scoring chances, but poor implementation and mistakes in defense led to a disappointing result (2: 4).

However, Luis Cortes' role is not limited to coaching the main women's team. In offering the specialist cooperation, the Ukrainian Football Association took into account his experience in implementing a women's football development program in Catalonia. Therefore, the invitation of this specialist and his coaching staff is a great contribution to the strategy of women's football in Ukraine.

In 2021, 30 football players took part in the matches of the women's national team of Ukraine. All 10 matches were played by Olga Ovdiychuk, the team captain Darya Apanashchenko played nine matches and became the top scorer of the year with four goals.
